Controversy when dealing with Hearing Impairment
- There has been a notable increase of children receiving cochlear implants. With this occurring there have been concerns raised about the children’s psychosocial adjustment and whether it will help or hurt the issue. A study showed that with students suffering from deafness and they psychosocial outcomes were not directly affected by if they had Cochlear implants. The study found that the Cochlear implant is an assistive tool and does not impact psychosocial functioning significantly. It was determined that how the educational system and the parents meet the students psychosocial needs are of more importance versus the fact if they have a Cochlear Implant or not.
